Volunteer: Skilled Volunteers

Skilled volunteers are needed to complete projects in order to keep seniors living in their own home or make a home safe.  Pro bono services of licensed trades workers would advance our mission greatly. This work would be needed on an on-call basis year round. We would schedule around busy times and between jobs or on the weekend.

Great opportunities to mentor young people who may be considering a career in this field.

Also in this category, we are also looking for people who can preview homes for the needed repairs.  After we receive an application, previewers would do a walk-through of the home, identifying issues of safety and warmth.  They review their findings with the homeowner and fill out forms to help determine needed repairs.  Some documentation required.

Volunteer: RSVP: Volunteer Driver

RSVP 55+ Volunteer Program partners with Making the Ride Happen to provide transportation for those age 66 and over. Making the Ride Happen, a program of Lutheran Social Services, provides resources for callers on the choices of transportation to get to their location. Sometimes the best choice is a caring, compassionate volunteer driver.

The volunteer drivers are put on a monthly schedule based on their availability. A few days before the shift, the Making the Ride Happens staff makes them aware of the details of their ride. If you want to feel appreciated, just provide a ride to someone to get to their doctor appointment, grocery store, hair appointment, social activity or other errands. Client satisfaction surveys are completed regularly...feel the love!

Drivers use their own car and pick their own schedule. The Making the Ride Happen staff work to accommodate all of your needs along with their clients to make a match.

RSVP 55+ Volunteer Program supports efforts in our community that help seniors remain in their own home. If you are interested in working with Making the Ride Happen contact RSVP and learn about the support RSVP provides these drivers!

Volunteer: Vet to Vet Volunteer

Companion volunteers that have served in the armed forces can provide a special type of support to fellow veterans who are now receiving hospice services.  Veterans often have unique experiences from their military service that another veteran might better understand and relate to.  Volunteers would spend time visiting, socializing, and enriching the patient's life through companionship. Volunteer: RSVP: Construction and rehabbing homes

RSVP focuses on helping economically disadvantaged individuals in need of safe and affordable housing. RSVP partners with Habitat for Humanity Fox Cities to this end. If you are looking for an opportunity where you can grow and develop AND have a lot of fun, consider Habitat for Humanity. Some of the nicest (and goofiest) people volunteer with Habitat. Ask about their Red Shirt Breakfast. This is a great way to develop new friendships.

Housing Partnership of the Fox Cities also has some construction needs but also maintenance needs. This is a great way to support individuals and families as they gain knowledge and skills to become successful renters and home owners. If you ever needed a hand up, you will understand the need for this transitional housing program.

Have you heard the term "aging-in-place?" Working with Rebuilding Together Fox Valley you will be a catalyst for this movement. Redesigning homes and adding safety features so that older adults and those with disabilities can remain independent and have choices about their lifestyle, is a great effort to be a part of.

RSVP 55+ Volunteer Program partners with these housing programs and together people's lives are changed. RSVP supports the volunteers while they make positive changes in the lives of others. Ask about the benefits of RSVP.

Volunteer: RSVP: Companionship for the homebound

RSVP 55+ Volunteer Program works to increase the social ties of homebound older adults. Partnering with ElderMatch, a program of Lutheran Social Services is a great approach to get this done.

ElderMatch Coordinator meets with the homebound requesting service to ascertain needs and personality. Then they search for the right fit in a volunteer companion. It could be they need someone who is out-going and talkative, or they prefer someone who is a great listener. Sometimes common past experiences like military service or a common interest like model train building or board games makes the match successful.

The volunteer companions make a visit once a week or 10 days for an hour or two. The companions report back to the ElderMatch companion on any concerns or news that the client shares. News shared could be that a grandson is getting married or there is new baby in the family. Concerns noted could be that a child is in the hospital, children are moving away or the companion notices signs of a health concern. These are possible concerns that Lutheran Social Services may want to follow-up on to make sure that the client is getting the assistance that they need. In this way the ElderMatch volunteer can have a critical role in the well-being of the client.

RSVP 55+ Volunteer Program loves that there are individuals who will reach out and support those who may be isolated in our community. RSVP partners with ElderMatch and supports the volunteers who do this important work. Ask about the benefits of RSVP.
